Joachim-Plattin Emergency Medical Services
and the SSM S.T.A.R.S. Program
Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District was a pilot ambulance district with the development of the S.T.A.R.S. (Special Needs Tracking and Awareness Response System) program. This is a system put in place within our district coverage area. This program enables us to better prepare for special needs pediatrics patients should an emergency arise. Each member entered into S.T.A.R.S. has a database detailing his or her medical history, medications, allergies, baseline vital signs, neurological status, and common medical emergencies. This system is maintained by SSM Health Systems through an app and is updated as your child visits their physician. JPAD facilitates this app on district devices and along with a hard copy in each district vehicle. A STARS number is assigned to each members database. Should you need to call 911, the caller provides the dispatcher their STARS number associated with that child which is then immediately relayed to the responding ambulance. Having this information on hand can prove vital, especially when a primary caretaker is not present. The primary focus of S.T.A.R.S, are those with significant developmental delays, seizures, tracheostomies, and any other atypical diseases or syndromes.
To enroll in the S.T.A.R.S. program, please visit STARS (Special Needs Tracking and Awareness Response System) - SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Foundation. If needed, a paramedic from JPAD will make an appointment with you in your home to assist with the application to S.T.A.R.S. If you wish, you may visit JPAD to align with SSM while your STARS child can meet crews and check out the ambulance and equipment we use. Please contact us if you feel your loved one would be a S.T.A.R.S. candidate. For further information, you may call our main office number at 636-937-2224.
